Man struck by van may be police-related wrongful death

Many Kentucky residents are likely aware that it is in their best interest to obey the laws and avoid legal troubles. Many times, being arrested for a crime can lead to lingering ramifications if convicted. However, anyone accused of a crime is entitled to due process of law. While hundreds of arrests take place each day, police themselves do not always follow the rules, and in a recent case, their negligent actions seem to have lead to a wrongful death

In May 2018, Kentucky police stopped a man whom they accused of driving erratically. He was detained, and his vehicle was impounded. Police later contacted a member of the man's family to come and pick him up, but the family member advised them that it would be over an hour before he would be able to do so. For reasons that are currently under investigation, the family member said police later contacted him and said that they had dropped the man off at a local restaurant.

The hour was late, and the restaurant parking lot was dark. The man had no way to get home safely. His family member eventually arrived at the location police had given, but he was unable to find the man. He soon received another call, this time from the local coroner's office, informing him that his relative had attempted to make his way on foot and was subsequently struck by a vehicle and killed.

Wrongful death scenarios can be especially devastating to families and loved ones. In the aftermath of such a shocking loss, it can seem impossible to know what to do next. In many cases, a compassionate attorney may be able to assist grieving families as they attempt to heal and seek justice on behalf of their deceased family member.
